Opening up a home — safely
Removing a load-bearing wall is one of the most popular renovation moves and one of the easiest to get wrong. The wall is holding up the floors, roof, or both, so its load has to be transferred to a beam that's properly sized, with adequate posts and footings underneath. We coordinate the beam design with a structural engineer, shore the structure, install the beam, and finish it cleanly — so you get the open space with the structure fully intact. It's the same rigour behind our structural repair and foundation work, applied to your renovation.
When a beam is failing
Sometimes the beam work isn't optional. A sagging floor, a visibly bowing or cracked beam, or rot and crushing at post bases (common in the North Shore's damp crawl spaces) all mean a support that can no longer do its job. Left alone it gets worse and drags the structure with it. If your floors are already moving, start with our floor leveling service — beam and post work is often the fix.
